Hi Brian,
A1:Yes, consistant=y is a MUST if you export an DB while users are connected and working. Otherwise its not guaranteed that all Data is Consistant. Because it slowes the Export down you should export a big DB without this flag but without users connected.
Direct means that Oracle does not need to put the Data through the SGA, this speeds up every Export/Import for 200 - 500 %. So since it is
available I never used the conventional Path.

Q2: I do not understand what this means. Propably it has to do with the Locking that has to be used for consistant export.
