Dear Matthew Morris and other traditional Oracle gurus

It's very hard to pass recent MySQL developer and DBA exams (without brain dumps), because there is almost no up2date study guides and books. Most MySQL/MariaDB guides basics and in combination with PHP or other programming language.

Is there some study guides in pipeline? Matthew wrote very long time (more than one year) ago he is working on it. How the state?

Creating certification preparation materials is not my primary job. Forty hours each week is allocated to my employer where I am a database developer. In my copious spare time after 'work', I wear a number of different hats to expand the content and visibility of the products under my Oracle Certification Prep label. Most visibly, I am the author of the study guides, but I am also the technical editor, proofreader, and I'm responsible to all tasks involved in formatting the book and cover for publishing, assigning the ISBN and getting the book and e-book onto Amazon. I am the webmaster for the Oracle Certification Prep website and must add all of the links I locate when researching a new guide as well as adding in the references to the study guide once it has been published.

In addition to creating the guides, I also write articles that are published monthly at the Certification Magazine website. While these seldom focus on a specific credential, I think the articles are valuable for certification seekers. They also help to make me (and by extension my work) more visible. That leads to the point that the Oracle Certification Prep marketing department consists of... me. I don't actually pay for ads with anyone and I have no desire (or aptitude) to make direct sales pitches so my marketing efforts are largely a byproduct of other activities much as my articles, OCPrep website, blog postings, forum postings, etc. It does no one any good if I create materials that are not visible enough to the people who might be interested in them. The Oracle Certification Prep brand is much more visible today than it was four years ago when I started this, but that's largely because of the time I've invested towards that goal.

Since August I have been working on the following projects:

Writing a study guide for 1D0-541: CIW Database Design Specialist.
Writing a study guide for 1Z1-006 Oracle Database Foundations.
Creating practice tests for 1Z0-050, 1Z0-055, 1Z0-034, 1Z0-067, 1Z0-052, 1Z0-053, 1Z0-062, & 1Z0-063
Creating a website for the imprint I publish my books under.
Creating a website specifically for the Oracle Certification Prep practice tests.

A partial list of the tasks on my to-do list for the coming months includes the following:

Complete & publish practice tests for 1Z0-006.
Create quizzes for GoCertify for 1Z0-050, 1Z0-055, 1Z0-034, 1Z0-067, 1Z0-052, 1Z0-053, 1Z0-062, & 1Z0-063.
Complete next set of articles for Certmag.com
Write study guide for 1Z0-100.
Write study guide for 1Z0-064.
Write study guide for 1Z0-054.
Write study guide for 1Z0-105.
Write study guide for 1Z0-068.
Write study guide for 1Z0-066.
Write study guide for 1Z0-883.
Write study guide for 1Z0-882.

The tasks may or may not be completed in the order shown above, but that's the plan. The plan changes all the time. There's also lots of things missing from the list that I know are missing, as well as things that I don't currently know about right now... but which are bound to show up.

I won't give a timeline on any of the above because I won't make artificial deadlines for myself. To be clear, I'm not upset that you asked when I'll get around to writing the MySQL books. I wrote a detailed answer to show why I cannot answer that, and to provide some insight on the amount of work happening behind the scenes that keeps new study guides from appearing quite as fast as anyone (including me) might wish were the case.
