I've just installed Oracle 8i(8.1.6) Enterprise Edition on Solaris 7.
There was no error message when I was installing Oracle Server.
After installation I typed 'svrmgrl' and 'lsnrctl' command on console.
then I got these errors.
$svrmgrl
Oracle Server Manager Release 3.1.6.0.0 - Production
Message 4505 not found; No message file for product=SVRMGR, facility=MGR
Error while trying to retrieve text for error ORA-12545
SVRMGR>
SVRMGR>startup
MGR-00310: Message 310 not found;
No Message file for product=SVRMGR, facility=MGR
$lsnrctl
LSNRCTL for Solaris: Version 8.1.6.0.0 - Production on 21-NOV-2001 10:41:45

Message 850 not found; No message file for product=network, facility=NL
LSNRCTL>
LSNRCTL>start
TNS-01106: Message 1106 not found;
No Message file for product=network, facility=TNS [[LISTENER]]

HI
You have to set
ORACLE_HOME
ORACLE_SID
PATH
ld_library_path
variables...
you can either export them one by one
or put them in your .profile
