Hi,

What processes run when Period is opened and closed for General Ledger. I would like to know what sort of pressures it puts on IT resources since we have been told it slows down the system. As front end user, it is no more than few minutes. Is the story really different from back end perspective?

Is there a resource which would list behind the scene processes for all other sub legders?

Thank you

Hi,

Period closing does not slow down the system but Reconciliation to close the period does .

In case of well implemented system , these are not an issue.

How far can a system be implemented without an issue!!!!

While closing the period, various other considerations of sub ledgers such as :

1) Whether all the transaction has been recorded ?
2) Whether recorded transaction has been transferred to GL ?
3) Any cancellations?
4) Any difference between the Trial balance of GL and sub Ledger ?
5) Do we need to permanently close the period or not ?

Maybe, the period closing process for individual subledger might be different but goal is the same...Reconcilation between GL and subledger.

And yes, there are some technical resources utilised in this process!!

Please provide your point of view .

Regards
Vinod
