this is customer requirement.

they had oracle 8i database on windows 2003 platform
and the had the some datas in CD as .dmt file as dump.
they want to load the datas from cd to the existing database.

if those dumps are taken from 10g version of oracle, can it be
able to load the datas in the database.

if we can load ,guide me how to do that?

I dont think so...The export from 10g cant be imported to 8i database. But the reverse is possible...i.e. 8i exports can be imported to 10g database. ( backward compatibility )

NandKumar, Who says you that they are export file? They may be simply data file copy.

By the way,if it is taken using exp of 10g and also

Quote:

able to load the datas in the database.

and you want to in 8i not possible.

Michel , I have seen a point in forum . When I submit my prior thread (before this one in this topic) I saw ara.oracle has not posted 2nd one and also you don't.Only NandKumar. But after several
refresh suddenly I saw his post and your post prior to mine one. I notice this things many more times.

Because we wrote the replies at the same.
You clicked on "Reply" when I was writing my post, before I clicked on "Submit reply". So you don't see my answer.
Then I submit my reply when you were writing your answer, you still don't see my answer.
After you submitted your answer you can see both answers yours and mine (or the opposite in chronological order).

No, Michel the thing is,Consider the order.

Arju
Michel

Now I submit my post and saw

Arju
Michel
Arju

Then I went in other page and after sometime I came back this page and now the order is changed as

Arju
Michel
Nand
Arju

Though I saw it like 2nd one. After that I have not wrote any thread. But Nand one is in the middle that does not match as I seen.

This is the mystery of concurrency in MySQL.
Maybe this is something like.
You see
Arju
Michel
Arju
because you see committed things and yours (committed or not).
Then
Arju
Michel
Nand
Arju
because Nand committed and his thread was created before but not committed when you previously refreshed.
But this is in term of Oracle concurrency. I don't know how it works in MySQL one.

Michel

Data file of one database can't be used in another database.
So you can't. It's not possible.

You asked them to give you a dump file that will be taken by emp(8i binary) command. Then you can load it in your database
using
imp username/pass full=y file= <your dump file name>
